There are a lot of guide services on the Kenai Peninsula. A quick search will surface dozens of options, all with boats, all claiming to put you on fish. So why RiverRise?

Here’s the straightforward answer — and we’ll let you decide.

25 Years on the Same Two Rivers

RiverRise Fishing Guides has been running fully guided fishing trips on the Kenai and Kasilof Rivers since the late 1990s. Not 25 years guiding in Alaska broadly. Not 25 years in the fishing industry. Twenty-five seasons on these specific rivers, learning how they fish, how the runs behave in different water years, and how to put clients on fish when conditions are difficult.

That kind of experience is genuinely cumulative. Every season adds to your understanding of a river’s character — which sections fish well in high water, how the sockeye move differently in a cold July versus a warm one, where the king salmon stage on the lower Kasilof when the tide is dropping. You don’t learn that from a textbook. You learn it from being out there, day after day, year after year.

We Fish Both Rivers — and We Pick the Right One for Your Trip

Most guide services operate on one river. We guide on both the Kenai and the Kasilof, which means we can put you on whichever river is producing on the day of your trip — not just the one we happen to have a boat launch permit for.

Some days the Kasilof is on fire and the Kenai is tough. Some seasons the Kasilof king run holds stronger than the Kenai. When the sockeye are stacked on the upper Kasilof in early July before they push into the Kenai, we know it — and we take you there.

We confirm your meeting time and location within a week of your trip because we’re watching both rivers right up to your trip day. That flexibility is built into how we operate.

Fully Guided Means Fully Guided

All rods, reels, terminal tackle, and custom-cured bait are provided and prepared specifically for the target species that day. We rig the rods, read the water, control the boat, and handle the net. You focus on fishing.

We fish with gear we trust — custom Stryker rods built for RiverRise, Shimano Tekota reels with line counters, P-Line throughout. Not because it looks impressive, but because king salmon and Kenai sockeye demand equipment that performs under pressure and we’re not interested in losing fish to a gear failure.

At the end of the trip, we clean and bag your fish. If you’re flying home, we’ll point you toward the processors in Soldotna and Kenai who vacuum pack and freeze for travel.

We’re Honest About What to Expect

We’ll tell you when the fishing is slow. We’ll tell you if the king run is down and what that means for your trip. If conditions on the morning of your trip point us toward a different section or a different river than what you expected, we’ll explain why and we’ll make the call that gives you the best day on the water.

We don’t promise limits every day regardless of conditions. The Kenai is a wild fishery — some days are extraordinary and some days are tough. Any guide who tells you otherwise hasn’t spent a full season on this river. What we promise is that we’ll work harder than anyone else to find the fish, and we’ll be straight with you when we do and when we don’t.

All Skill Levels — Genuinely

We take first-timers who have never held a fishing rod. We take experienced fly anglers who want to work trophy rainbow trout on egg patterns in September. We take families with kids as young as five. We take corporate groups and we take solo anglers who want to fish hard all day.

The level of instruction changes based on who’s in the boat. A guide who can explain flossing to a first-timer in two minutes and then spend the rest of the day talking shop with a seasoned angler is a guide worth hiring. That’s what we aim for every trip.

We Give Back to the Fishery

We donate 5% of every trip to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society — that’s been part of how we operate for years. We also support responsible fishery management and encourage catch-and-release of larger wild king salmon. The Kenai Peninsula’s salmon runs have faced real pressure over the past decade. We’re not just here to catch fish. We’re here because we love this fishery, and we want it to be here for the next generation of anglers.

What Our Clients Say

“RiverRise is by far the most professional outfitter service we saw on the rivers of the Kenai Peninsula. He put us right on top of the salmon both days we booked with him. Even though the runs were slower than usual, we had our full limit both days within 5 hours.”

“100% recommend. We had the best experience with Nick. Despite it being the end of the season, we spent a beautiful day floating the river, catching some amazing fish, and learning about the area. Nick is professional, organized, and knows his craft. As people new to fishing, he was very patient with us.”

“Everyone limited — great boat control and great manners. This guide is experienced and strives for YOU having the trip of a lifetime.”
